How to Dunk at 50 challenge and increase my vertical by 10"

This is going to be fun. My wife saw a news report on a guy that said for his 40th birthday he was going to give himself a present and the present was to be able to dunk a basketball on a 10 foot goal by his 40th birthday. This guy had never dunk a basketball on a regulation goal in his life. This was a major undertaking for this guy. This whole process got me to thinking.

I have played basketball basically all my life except for the past 10 years once I got married. I still shoot around with my son but I have not played competively in years. My neighborhood that I grew up in had a reunion about 3 years ago and I played in the legends game. Guys my age I'm 48 now against the young guys in High School and early 20's. The game was fun and some of the young guys were dunking in the game.

When I was in high school I could dunk even though I'm about 3 inches taller now than what I was in high school. There is nothing like the feeling of going up high in the air and being creative with a dunk. That's why it's the most exciting play in sports probaly. I told my wife that by my 50th birthday I would be able to dunk again on a regulation goal. I have changed that to a new goal of dunking for our next neighborhood reunion which will be held Labor Day 2010. I have some work to  do but I am going to chart my progress on this site.

I went online to find the best way to achieve my goal and I found my answer and I will probaly reach my goal within the next 6 months. Check out the manual here for the key exercises

I will keep everyone up on my progress. I will do an official vertical test at the YMCA and then I will do an unofficial from time to time on my basketball court with the goal at different heights. If there are any other 30-40 or 50 year olds who want to go along for the journey just post your comments and get the excercise manual and get started.
